Investigation of Compression Strength and Heat Absorption of Native Rice Straw Bricks for Environmentally Friendly Construction

The purpose of this study was to compare the efficiency native rice straw mixed bricks, prototype bricks and brick blocks that are sold in market. comparison looked at four aspects, as follows: (1) compression strength, (2) heat absorption, (3) weight (4) price. In study, species from Pa Pae sub-district, Mae Sariang District, Hong Son Province, Thailand, were used replace cement, sand stone 200, 300, 400 500 g amounts. ingredients then put into a hand-pounded mold. When extrusion finished, it removed mold cured for 7, 14 or 28 days. Brick block performance tested. results showed 200 with cement had best all aspects. able bear 1.26 kg/cm2. It transfer reduce temperature inside brick-block construction by 10 degrees Celsius. Its per 7.59 kg price only 3.17 baht ($0.09 USD) brick. conclusion, low thermal conductivity, attractive energy saving when wall insulation suitable environmentally friendly construction.
